Every week during the curling season, LCC hosts and/or attends Interclub “Friendlies” – games in which three Senior Men’s teams from LCC compete with teams from other regional clubs.
The league was started in 1981, with four clubs: Peterborough Golf & Country Club which took the lead, Peterborough Curling Club, Campbellford Curling Club and Lakefield Curling Club. A player by the name of Tom Norten is given credit for initiating the league.
The League’s emphasis has always been on friendly interclub rivalry and camaraderie, mutual trust and sociability of comrades; hence the terms “Interclub” and “Friendlies”.
Over the years, the Peterborough Curling Club has been the most frequent league winner of the year-end prize cup, and together with Norwood and West Northumberland Curling Clubs, they have been consistently in the top three in recent years.
Today’s membership of ten curling clubs includes: Campbellford, Ennismore, Lakefield, Lindsay, Norwood, Omemee, Peterborough, Peterborough Golf & Country, West Northumberland and Bobcaygeon. During the 2019/20 curling season the league organizes 90 interclub games and 10 Kawartha Interclub Bonspiels.
The schedule of matches is posted in each of the Senior Men’s League pages – you’re welcome to come out and cheer on the home teams!
